But let's get down to the reality and the disclaimers, since there's so much nuance. Let's imagine you car was your house for a second. Imagine your home was a palace, would that change the process of cleaning it? Yes, a ton. So clearly size matter right? Now, imagine there was a family of raccoons living in your house while you were on vacation. Would it be messier and take longer to clean when you got back? Yep (and gross). So clearly there are different types and degrees to cleaning. So now that we got the silly imagining out of the way, let's be real. Size matters, degree of dirty matters, and how often you clean it matters. The larger the car and the longer between washes you go, the longer it takes. For a weekly or bi-monthly maintenance wash on a daily driven sedan, this could be 20-30 minutes, sometimes less if it's ceramic coated for example. But on a large SUV, it will take longer, like 30-40 minutes. then if you take either of these and don't wash them for a month or 2, or take them offroading, you might end up adding a couple extra steps and 10-15 minutes to the process. What we promise is that this kit gives you the option and the tools to enhance the experience, avoid wasting steps and time, and if you usualy take a long time, it will be relatively faster. We have an extensive guide on some of the variations to approach washing with that change the timeline (also, tools matter like if you blow dry or not etc). For ceramic coatings, which were specifically invented for chemical resistance, the main culprit for diminishment is abrasion with contact. (what you need to know)","answer":"There is an incredible lack of scientific information on the internet about chemistry and detailing products. Regardless of what uneducated blogs about pH and car washing tell you, the science is more complicated. The way in which a lower or higher pH is achieved in water, matters. Certain chemicals you will find in high pH pre-rinses and cleaners for detailing are actually caustic, meaning they harm materials like plastic and bare metal. There are many popular wheel and tire formulas out there that we would never use on our vehicles. Those chemicals are not included in HotLap. This is a carefully curated and advanced formula that will not hurt your vehicle, especially when used properly. Follow our dilution guide and read the FAQ!"},{"question":"Is this an All Purpose Cleaner?","answer":"You may notice the incredible versatility of HotLap, this is because it started life as an alkaline APC. Then it was heavily modified to be able to tackle wheels and tires, without being caustic or harmful to other components or bare metals. As well as having elements that can remove stains without pulling colors from fabric. This is truly peak detailing chemistry here. There's really no need to tweak this and dilute it just to sell you a repackaged product with a different use case, like a lot of other brands do. You can dilute it and do that yourself at home."},{"question":"Can this car wash soap hurt my paint or wheels?","answer":"No! HotLap is a non-caustic high pH cleaner that is buffered to prevent reactions with any paint, coatings, films, or components on your car. With that said, you should never let any soap dry on your paint for too long, especially in the hot sun. So either wash in a cool shady or overcast location, or if you don't have that luxury on wash day, just move quickly. If you are seeing the soap dry, just re-spray it with soap and rinse immediately to avoid having to buff out dried soap stains. If you see soap residue, this is NOT PERMANENT. Just spray and wipe with more soap to remove, or in the case of wax damage, level out with Step 2."},{"question":"What can this damage? (wax)","answer":"The only use case we don't recommend for this cleaner is on traditional wax jobs and leather\/alcantara. This cleaner is safe on all other surfaces, even your interior. It just needs to be diluted. As for with traditional wax jobs, it will break down wax. This will cause a 'streaking' effect sometimes, and the leftover wax needs to be re-leveled or removed with more soap and contact. Even Step 2 can help with this as it will help add back and level leftover wax."},{"question":"Is this a touchless wash soap?","answer":"Our goal was to get as close to having a touchless wash soap as possible while being safe on all surfaces, and this is as close as it gets. Our pressure washing soap is made to remove as much dirt and grime as possible in one formula. A perfect touchless soap is still a myth for now, and to get as close as possible you need caustic chemicals we would never use on our vehicles. Plus you can't remove every type of film with one stable chemical mixture (watch our videos). This is why we made Step 2, to finish the job with the lower pH cleaning power that dissolves minerals (and is still safe in every situation)."},{"question":"Do I need a pressure washer for this?","answer":"We highly recommend pressure washing. Watch our tutorials to see our process. But this soap will work as good as any for bucket washing, we just don't prefer that method. Please wear gloves when touching wash chemicals with your hands. You can also try a spray cannon for a regular hose. They don't foam well, and they use up soap much faster, but they still get the job done with HotLap."},{"question":"What's the best pressure washer for washing your car?","answer":"The ideal pressure washer is one that has higher GPM (gallons per minute) flow. This means it pushes more water. And generally, you want to stay below 1500 or so PSI (which most budget pressure washers won't even reach even if they say they do). Full transparency, we've had similar results with testing lower GPM units and varying pressure. The difference is marginal. Most theories around detailing are just theories and rarely affect the actual outcomes, which is a clean car."}] },{ "handle": "dry", "title": "OneWiper", "faqs": [{"question":"Is this a detail spray?","answer":"Detail spray is essentially any spray used to finish the washing process of your paint. In general it cleans and\/or shines your paint while providing lubrication. In our case, OneWiper does this faster and better than any detail spray out there, plus it provides a couple weeks of protection, and a shine that you just can't beat with such easy cleaning power and use. Plus it smells amazing."},{"question":"What makes this different than other sprays out there?","answer":"OneWiper is what happens when you take a rinse less\/waterless wash solution, add ceramic-wax polymer resins (3 types), balance them in harmony with it’s cleaning ingredients, and make it be able to dissolve sediments to reduce friction and remove hard water stains (not etched water marks, those require paint correction not chemistry). What you get is a spray cleaning solution that adds protection with every wash, lowers the chances of grit scratching your paint from a mitt or towel, and a temporary coating solution that is glossier and easier to use than ever because it clears itself up… so it performs even in direct sunlight!"},{"question":"Do you need a detail spray after washing?","answer":"If you are trying to have a shiny clean finish, absolutely. No matter how you wash it, your paint will have film, stains, hard water, or cloudiness over time that can't be removed or restored without a towel and a gloss enhancer. But you should rarely ever touch your car with a towel (even a new one) without a spray that provides lubrication too. With OneWiper, you won't have to deal with fussy residues and streaking or hard water stains, and the deep color enhancing shine it leaves is pretty wild."},{"question":"Do you need a car drying towel with this?","answer":"We usually recommend car drying blowers (leaf blowers) over car drying towels. But using this drying and detailing spray in conjunction with a good towel is absolutely necessary regardless of whether you are using a giant drying towel or a blower. We highly recommend smaller, more controlled and higher quality towels over big giant towels that are hard to monitor for dirt and build up that can scratch your paint. This allows the soap to do its job before sliding off."},{"question":"How do foam cannons make washing easier?","answer":"By allowing you to dispense soap directly onto the paint without having to use a bucket! While many people like to rinse their cars, then foam bath, then rinse, then 2 bucket wash, then rinse again, we feel this is rarely necessary. With a soap like HotLap, you can get a really fast wash by foam cannon application and rinse with a pressure washer."}] },{ "handle": "the-perfect-paint-towel", "title": "The Perfect Paint Towel (5 pack)", "faqs": [{"question":"Can I re-use microfiber towels after cleaning my car or if they get dirty?","answer":"You absolutely should, and these towels hold up cycle after cycle. We personally haven't seen proper use wear them down at all. The only reason we would stop using them (for our paint) is if we drop them on sandy\/rocky ground or if they get soiled with anything other than normal paint grime and film, like heavy oil\/grease or gravel, or ceramic resin from a coating job. If you do drop them in dirt or use them for other shop components, we recommend demoting the towels to 'shop use' and general purpose other than paint. Keep your paint towels exclusive to paint. Microfibers pick up and trap a lot of debris when you drop them, or gunk them up with other compounds. Inspect after each wash for any leftovers or attached debris to reconfirm them for paint use!"},{"question":"How do I clean microfiber towels?","answer":"Normal washer and dryer should do the trick. Cycle on warm water (not hot, preferably), and low heat drying. If they are heavily soiled, soak them in a dilution of cleaner like HotLap (.5 oz in a gallon of water) to remove grease and oil or resin and wax build up, then add to a wash cycle as stated above with regular detergent. Pro tip: Never let these touch anything but your car's paint. Use a separate basket to deposit your dirty paint towels into (separate from any other clothes or towels) and wash them in their own cycle. This will keep them untainted from debris (which microfibers capture easily) so they are always safe on your fresh paint."},{"question":"What does GSM mean? Is 400 GSM good?","answer":"This is a relevant factor with towels, yet hardly tells the whole story. Towels are rated based on their mass measured in 'Grams per Square Meter' or 'GSM'. This means their mass if they were cut to a square meter (instead of 16in x 16in in our case). Although the thickness of the towel is rarely accounted for, and plays a major role in density (mass per volume), so not all 390-420GSM towels, for instance, feel or perform the same. A fluffier towel that's thicker with the same GSM is going to feel entirely different. Towel thickness, material and quality of material, and stitch design or style plays a major role in how the towel behaves and performs. This is why these towels outperform any other towels at the same GSM level for cleaning and buffing."},{"question":"Is this a good car drying towel?","answer":"Our perfect towels are more than ideal for drying your car. In fact, because of their material, design, and size, they offer a more controlled and safer way to dry your paint, along with OneWiper, over the leading oversized drying towels that tend to be hard to see dirt on and can scratch your paint for this reason."}] },] }
