Honest Review: The Drive Lab Wash Kit Put to The Test!

Rob Caputo over at Talking With Cars on YouTube tried out our 3 Step Formulas and Wash Kit

HOW DOES IT PERFORM COMPARED TO THE BEST?

What is The Drive Lab Wash Kit Made of?

For a full detailed shine in under 30 minutes... Instead of 3 different cleaners to pre-rinse, clean your wheels, wash your car with a bucket and mitt, then 2-3 more formulas to detail and dry the car and then coat it for protection afterwards, AND then another formula to dress the tires and trim...

With our kit you just pre-rinse the car and clean your wheels with Step 1, then complete the wash and coat your paint with Step 2, and refresh your tires and trim with Step 3.

GOING DEEPER: Simplicity, Honesty, and Speed Were The Goal

"We wanted to be really honest and not make products that steered away from things like high or low pH (which is super helpful in cleaning) just because it scares people. There are down sides to every approach, but people tend to fear chemistry when they don't fully understand it. If anything my (Griffin: Founder) education and long term experience around nutrition and bio chem taught me that most product out there is made to satisfy peoples perception, not their needs. So things like health halo's and buzz words influence people more than anything, and I don't love that.

So in this case, pH neutral being something like that, more of a safe word for people. So we needed to make some big decisions. With HotLap, it's buffered below the point of corrosion, and will only have an affect on removing something like wax, which can be a downside and is exactly why we put it back into OneWiper! (it also gives the best gloss). So this way you can use HotLap for almost any job, otherwise we would've needed to make two soaps just to avoid hurting wax jobs, which tbh are pretty inferior considering you can ceramic coat your car so much faster with our OverShield, and OneWiper or any quick wax can add back the gloss no problem (no shame to those who love waxing though).

Then as for OneWiper... it's acidic, this was a bold choice, and it was on purpose. This helps reduce abrasion due to minerals in road film that HotLap leaves behind, as well as hard water. Clears it right out. It's a low pH but a very weak acid, so it buffers out quickly and won't etch paint or anything (aka as soon as you spray it on it starts to change in pH, essentially). And it really performs in the hot sun, try it against any spray out there and it will win in the sun. In some areas this is key because shade is more rare and people don't have time to wait until the sun is in just the right place to wash their car. I for one have no shade at my house at any part of the day unfortunately. And as for any streaking it leaves behind, thats just the resins and wax showing that they exist. I like to do a "wet" wipe and then a quick dry wipe after with a clean towel. Literally just run around the car after it's clean with a new towel, takes 30-60 seconds and the streaks are gone, as you showed us how easy it is to clear out on your roof. Actually, hate to say this, but this is an advantage of washing in the sun (HA), it reveals all so you can make the car perfect (although hot days are awful for washing)

Then NewShoes, our step 3, really was a no brainer. Let's get the right balance for a alcohol based, acrylic coating for the tires so they look brand new again. It dries super quickly, doesn't leave grease behind, and this means you're ready to go in minutes without flinging resin all over your paint (huge pet peeve). It also won't attract and collect dirt and gunk from the road. AND it will refresh faded plastics for that new black looks and protection from UV all around."
